Did you also add an entry in the sqlhost file to indicate the protocal of the server alias? Yes, I've also added the following entry in the onconfig file NETTYPE tlitcp,1,20,NET # Override sqlhosts nettype parameters If I take out all refernces to the tcp/ip protocol in the sqlhosts and onconfig files, the server starts without any problems.
