Almost all of it is in the query processing. That is, put a slow query into Exec() and you get back slow results. For fast queries it's probably going to be ~20% tops. There are a couple of places to tweak it; particularly memory management (it ships creating 12 byte buffers 'coz that's the fastest way to spot bugs - up this to ~1024 bytes). But that's probably only marginally noticable.
