Server Connection problem from DBAccess
Posted in 2000
Jorge Gomez got error 908 connecting DBAccess to demo_on on Red Hat Linux with IDS 2000. Jonathan Leffler and Paul Watson spotted the protocol was misspelled onsotcp instead of onsoctcp, and Leffler said the host name must match uname -n. Mike South and Watawinona suggested service-name, udp and DBSERVERALIAS changes. No confirmation of the fix.

I'm new on Informix (IDS2000) and Linux (Red Hat 6.0), it's great if you can help me. DBAccess shows the 908 error: Attempt to connect to Database Server (demo_on) failed this is my $INFORMIXDIR/etc/sqlhosts file: demo_on onsotcp ERP sqlexec demo_se onsotcp ERP sqlexec this is my /etc/hosts file: 192.168.1.101 ERP ERP.LinuxCS 192.168.1.103 ERP ERP.LinuxCS also I have the line on /etc/services file: sqlexec 1543/tcp sqlexec 1543/udp When I install Linux it show the following info: IP Address 192.168.1.101 Primary NameServer 192.168.1.1 Domain Name LinuxCS Host Name ERP.LinuxCS The set INFORMIXSERVER="ERP" (and tryed to "demo_on" with same results) and INFORMIXDIR alse is set Trying with 'onsocspx' protocol on $INFORMIXDIR/etc/sqlhosts file shows error:25507 You specified an unknown service name or protocol. I installed the demos DB as the manual says. Why do you think DBAccess can't connect to a DBSERVER? Thanks very much to everyone.....Jorge Gomez ______________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free Email at http://www.hotmail.com

make you entries in etc/service sqlexectcp and sqlexecudp then modify the sqlhosts file accordingl;y ...the last field in the sqlhosts file must be unique On Wed, 01 Mar 2000 08:12:08 PST, "Jorge Arturo Gomez Baez" <jorge_gomezb@hotmail.com> wrote: > >I'm new on Informix (IDS2000) and Linux (Red Hat 6.0), it's great if you can >help me. >DBAccess shows the 908 error: Attempt to connect to Database Server >(demo_on) failed > >this is my $INFORMIXDIR/etc/sqlhosts file: >demo_on onsotcp ERP sqlexec >demo_se onsotcp ERP sqlexec > >this is my /etc/hosts file: >192.168.1.101 ERP ERP.LinuxCS >192.168.1.103 ERP ERP.LinuxCS > >also I have the line on /etc/services file: >sqlexec 1543/tcp >sqlexec 1543/udp > >When I install Linux it show the following info: >IP Address 192.168.1.101 >Primary NameServer 192.168.1.1 >Domain Name LinuxCS >Host Name ERP.LinuxCS > >The set INFORMIXSERVER="ERP" (and tryed to "demo_on" with same results) and >INFORMIXDIR alse is set >Trying with 'onsocspx' protocol on $INFORMIXDIR/etc/sqlhosts file shows >error:25507 You specified an unknown service name or protocol. >I installed the demos DB as the manual says. >Why do you think DBAccess can't connect to a DBSERVER? > > Thanks very much to everyone.....Jorge Gomez >______________________________________________________ >Get Your Private, Free Email at http://www.hotmail.com Mike South The BEST in adult Video www.mikesouth.com

It's supposed to be onsoctcp and not onsotcp. Also I think you might need the hostname in lower case but I wouldn't swear to it Jorge Arturo Gomez Baez wrote: > > I'm new on Informix (IDS2000) and Linux (Red Hat 6.0), it's great if you can > help me. > DBAccess shows the 908 error: Attempt to connect to Database Server > (demo_on) failed > > this is my $INFORMIXDIR/etc/sqlhosts file: > demo_on onsotcp ERP sqlexec > demo_se onsotcp ERP sqlexec > > this is my /etc/hosts file: > 192.168.1.101 ERP ERP.LinuxCS > 192.168.1.103 ERP ERP.LinuxCS > > also I have the line on /etc/services file: > sqlexec 1543/tcp > sqlexec 1543/udp > > When I install Linux it show the following info: > IP Address 192.168.1.101 > Primary NameServer 192.168.1.1 > Domain Name LinuxCS > Host Name ERP.LinuxCS > > The set INFORMIXSERVER="ERP" (and tryed to "demo_on" with same results) and > INFORMIXDIR alse is set > Trying with 'onsocspx' protocol on $INFORMIXDIR/etc/sqlhosts file shows > error:25507 You specified an unknown service name or protocol. > I installed the demos DB as the manual says. > Why do you think DBAccess can't connect to a DBSERVER? > > Thanks very much to everyone.....Jorge Gomez > ______________________________________________________ > Get Your Private, Free Email at http://www.hotmail.com -- Paul Watson # WF Software Ltd # You are only young once Tel: +44 1436 674729 # but you can be immature Fax: +44 1436 678693 # for ever www.wfsoftware.com #
Try removing the udp entry in /etc/services. Try getting just one ip address working before tackling two. Try setting ERP in the DBSERVERALIAS parameter in the onconfig file. Nona
