The terminal emulator may not be capable of displaying the line drawing graphics, especially if it came bundled with the OS. The emulator may have LOTS of configuration settings, or not enough of them. > sets TERM = vt100 then runs the application Is the terminal emulator set to emulate a vt100? By the way, a vt100 only has four function keys. Informix apps may be programmed to need more than four PF-keys. The fifth function key is always a pain when it comes to VT terminal emulation. Every site has a different way of choosing what to do about F5. > lqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqk > x and his boxes look like this x > mqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqj > Not unreasonably, he doesn't like this all that much. First, look at what the PC, operating system, and terminal emulator are capable of doing. You will want to choose the terminal emulator that you want to support for him (if you can). We like using MS-Kermit or Kermit95, but there are many others that can get the job done. Most third party TCP packages have a telnet terminal emulator that can handle what Informix needs, and even use color and many function keys. We like FTP Software products, and again, there are many others to choose from. If you want to use all of the Informix capabilities, then you will probably have to tweak terminfo/termcap, but line drawing should work with existing terminfo/termcap setups. That problem most probably lies at the PC end. -- Roger J.
