Heres a little point, be warned that although v3 of NewEra is 32bit, runs on
95 and NT etc etc. It will allow you to create file names for WIFs, 4GLs
and 4GHs upto 255 characters........ However, it won't compile because the
compiler can still only handle upto 8 characters. As I've just spent nearly
to hours finding out. I had a file called usermaint.4gh and when trying to
compile kept getting a -4010 error. Saying that the file could not be
found. But I know the filename and path I was using was correct. This
error appears in another header file which includes usermaint.4gh.
Finally I decided to compile usermaint on its own, but the compiler kept
'ABORTING'. After a while I went to read the .err file created but could
not find it. Why? Because the file it had created was usermain.err, it was
ignoring any characyer past the 8th and therefore could not find
usermaint.4gh it was looking for usermain.4gh.
This was bloody irritating, perhaps someone at Informix could tell me why I
am allowed to create 255 character filenames, but am unable to compile them
(without changing the name). Thought this was supposed to be 32bit???
Question:
Also, does anybody know why when I go to build my application with the
makefile generated by NewEra. it recompiles nearly all of the source code?
(I may have only chaged one file but about 15-20 others are re-compiled as
well, that have nothing to do with the one I've changed)
Ta for any help
