zombie processes on linux

Hi, we are trying to port our informix SE - based application to Linux. This is fine on the Unix side (Esql/c with seicpip server) But One part of the application (a growing one as we are migrating towards a Gui interface) uses netwerk connections from PC's with the informix client SDK via sqlexecd to the database on Linux (sesoctcp via ifmsrv) I installed the trial editions (via Intraware) 7.24 UC5 enad 7.24 UE5 on different machines. Linux 5.1 RedHat linux kernel 2.0.36 with 7.24 UC5 Linux 6.2 RedHat linux kernel 2.2.14-6.1.1 with 7.24 UC5 Linux 6.2 Redhat linux kernel 2.2.14-6.1.1 with 7.24 UE5 On all of them the disconnected PC clients leave a sqlexecd zombie proces [sqlexec defunct] on the server). After a time this clutters up the performance of the server. The only remedy is killing sqlexecd or rebooting, but then all users have to stop. Any suggestions - workarounds or fixes for this problem ?. A network daemon of our own had this same problem, but we remedied this by adding signal (SIGCLD, SIG_IGN); to ignore the change in status of a child process. Any information is most welcome.? This is a known bug. There were many postings early on and I believe that two fixes were added to the Informix on Linux FAQ. Look at the IIUG Site or the Informix Linux Developers Corner. I no longer remember the fixes. Art S. Kagel Ralph wrote: > > Hi, > > we are trying to port our informix SE - based application to Linux. Ok, I have it. The UE5 release does fix this problem. I unfortunately forgot to kill the old UC5 sqlexecd when installing the new version of informix. After I corrected this, there were no defuncts left after exiting the clients. Still, thanks for the reply. Ralph Roef
