To check the version of Informix, try onstat -V or tbstat -V.

Ask your DBA why transactions are not setup. He may have switched it off
for some good reason, ie if your application is a datawarehouse type of
application. To check this, run an onmonitor:status:databases, it will give
you a list of databases with its logging mode.

Many installations move the online.log to a seperate larger directory. The
path is given by MSGLOG in the onconfig file.

SE uses file-system files. I may be wrong, but AFAIK the format is C-ISAM.
They are definitely not flat files. AFAIK, SE does not use raw-disk space.
Although there have been some renewed interest in SE because of the free
port of SE 7.24 on Linux among other things (It was judged the best
database ported tor Linux in 1998, so lots of people including me are using
it at home and I would imagine that some commercial apps that were
previously running on the free PostgreSQL would have switched too).
