Yes, Informix does deadlock detection. It traces all through the lock lists
to make sure that you aren't waiting for someone who's waiting for someone
who's ... (etc etc) ... who's waiting for you.

If the book says that, it's wrong. There are other conditions in 6.00+ that
you can be waiting on. Try onstat -g con, or some of the other -g options.
By the way, if this is your SAP system, and I suspect it is (Hi, Bill!), try
to upgrade to the latest version. I have vague recollections of some problem
that got fixed (I think it was in R/3 but that might just be wishful thinking
;-)
