Re: Ontape -r

I had to restore a specific dbspace the other day, and I had the system in multi user mode because other users were accessing different data.
When the restore was completed, the system was still in multi user mode.
I ended up calling for Informix support, and they told me that when this happens that they have dial in after a restore like this and set the data space back to consistent.
The man I spoke with indicated that this is something that they have to do, and not something that an average user can complete.

Look below and I'll point out your error. It is not well documented but I've
been bitten:

Message returned that the physical restore of develop completed. The online.log follows. The problem is now when I try to run ontape -s -L 0 I get the error "... Archive failed - DBspace develop is being recovered." What do I need to do to fix this. I could not find the answer in the manuals.

Here is where you went wrong. You shutdown the engine after the restore
without bringing it fully to online mode. The restore left the restored
chunks in state "inconsistent" meaning they were in the process of being
restored. Bringing the engine online would have triggered the end of the
fast recovery logic which would have run through the on disk logfiles to see
if there were transactions to apply and finally marked the chunks back to
online status. At this point you have to restore that dbspace again and this
time do 'onmode -m' and wait for the engine status to report 'online' to
onstat before shutting down with 'onmode -ky'. This recovery may be
instantaneous but it usually takes a while, sometimes a seemingly unusually
long while. When the engine is online run an onstat -d and you will see the
chunks are now online as is the dbspace.
