Check out the sysmaster database in 6.0. It includes all onstat (formally
tbstat) info and more, and can be fully queried. This feature is also known
as SMI (system monitoring interface) and allows you to code custom monitoring
tools using esql/c, 4gl, etc.

Now you know: Informix's optimizer is also being actively worked on and
improved with each release. 6.0 sees the introduction of new statistic
gathering capabilities and 7.0 new join mechanisms (which the optimizer
must now take into consideration) as well as parallelism. I'd like to
think we will maintain our more advanced placement relative to Oracle.
