Re: backup/recovery

Thuc, It sounds like you need a Unix manual, not an Informix book. "tbtape" is an Informix utility used to backup and restore a database. That's all it does! It should not/cannot be used for individual files. Under Unix, you should use the Unix "tar" or "cpio" utilities to backup all other files and directories. Personally, I use "cpio" for backups but it's a question of personal preferences. Both "tar" and "cpio" have pros and cons - just pick one. I hope that's the answer to your question. If it's not or if "man tar" and "man cpio" aren't clear enough, feel free to write back. --Craig On Wed, 10 Apr 1996 00:02:06 -0500, Thuc Nguyen <nguyent@jcave.com> wrote: >I am newly hired DBA and have looked at the informix manuals.
