Understanding data distribution
Posted in 2000
Hello everybody:
I am trying to understand how bins and data distribution
work. Reading manual "Managing and Optimizing IDS", I have found that the
number of bins is resulted from:
100 / resolution for update statistics high
I have created a test table that has 1 serial column. In dbaccess i
executed:
update statistics high for table x_test resolution 10
and i got this output with dbschema:
-----------
Distribution for x_test.col_one
Constructed on 12/07/2000
High Mode, 10.000000 Resolution
--- DISTRIBUTION ---
( 1)
1: ( 1, 1, 1)
2: ( 1, 1, 2)
3: ( 1, 1, 3)
4: ( 1, 1, 4)
5: ( 1, 1, 5)
6: ( 1, 1, 6)
7: ( 1, 1, 7)
8: ( 1, 1, 8)
9: ( 1, 1, 9)
10: ( 1, 1, 10)
11: ( 1, 1, 11)
12: ( 1, 1, 12)
}
Why do i have 12 bins if i run the statment with resolution 10; i must have
10 bins, rigth? Can somebody explain it to me please!!!?
thanks in advance,
Luis.
