Informix 7.31 UD8 GLS error 23115 Code sets of the locale categories

Last week I installed Informix 7.31 UD8 and wasn't able to connect to
the engine. It kept on returning me error -23115 Code sets of the
locale categories are not the same. The only way to connect without
this error was by using dbaccess.
Installing version 7.31 UC6 didn't give me this problem ( on the same
machine ).
While trying to figure out what the problem was, I copied the contents
of $INFORMIXDIR\\gls of the 7.31 UC6 version over the UD8 version and
that worked! I had no errors while connecting to the engine.
Could someone tell me if they had the same problem? Is it ok to
overwrite the gls-directory (when it's from the same major version) as
I did ? Apparently it did solve my problem but maybe this would give me
other problems along the way.
Unfortunately we cannot upgrade because of the platform unavailability
of IDS on SCO UnixWare.. We hope to migrate everything soon to the
Linux-platform but in the meantime we're
stuck with SCO.
Thanks.

This probably means you've had some non-standard gls setup added on your UC6
and didn't have it on UD8.
When you copied gls dir from older setup to the new one you effectively
added the feature that was missing in UD8.
If you haven't erased anything from UC6's gls dir before copying it to UD8
then you should have nothing to worry about.
