Multithreaded ESQL/C on HP-UX 11.0

I am trying to compile a multithreaded application for ESQL/C 7.24.HC2 on HP-UX 11.0. This is my first attempt at a multithreaded program, so please forgive my ignorance in the following post. When I try to compile with the -thread option I am prompted with the message "THREADLIB environment variable must be set to DCE, POSIX(Solarix 2.5 and higher only) and SOL (Solaris Kernel Threads)" I assume I am limited to DCE since I am not running on a Sun box. Now, does this mean Informix only uses DCE for it's multithreaded syncronization and I am free to use what ever I want (I want to use pthreads) to perform my own multitreading, or am I limited to using DCE? Are they the same thing? So to get past this message I "export THREADLIB=DCE" as per the release notes. Ok, assuming that I can use pthreads and Informix will use DCE to perform it's own multithreading (and assuming their not the same thing) I try to compile using: esql -thread -o multhread multhread.ec This is followed by: *Initialization*:1: missing token-sequence in `#assert' I then try and compile with esql -thread -libdce.2 -o multhread multhread.ec and I get the same error Any help from anyone who has done this kind of thing before would as always be greatly appreciated. Thanks for you time, Andrew
Later versions of esql/c (CSDK 2.4+) supports posix threads on HP 11.00. Go to intraware and you should be able to download a copy. This will allow you to use pthreads. I was successful doing this last year for a customer. ray Andrew Ford wrote: > > I am trying to compile a multithreaded application for ESQL/C 7.24.HC2 on > HP-UX 11.0. > > This is my first attempt at a multithreaded program, so please forgive my > ignorance in the following post. > > When I try to compile with the -thread option I am prompted with the > message "THREADLIB environment variable must be set to DCE, POSIX(Solarix > 2.5 and higher only) and SOL (Solaris Kernel Threads)" > > I assume I am limited to DCE since I am not running on a Sun box.
