error -1213 after running update statistics high

Hi guyz, After running update statistics high on a table, one of my queries fail with error 1213. My collegue has diagnosed the cause to be the comparison between a character field and a numeric field. i.e. select * from tab1, tab2 where tab1.numberic_field = tab2.character_field[1,11] the value for the character field is formed by the numeric field plus "-001". For example, if numeric value is 48995 then the corresponding character field will be 00000048995-001. Ideally, we should be able to compare the two values. The strange thing is that this works fine until update statistics high is run on the table containing the character field. The other strange thing is that only update statistics high causes this problem, low and medium does not cause this problem. This smells like a bug to me, anyone else ever came across this problem? What exactly does the update statistics high do the system tables to make the comparison fail? austin
