On-Line engine - Logical Logs

We are using Informix On-Line release UE2 under Ultrix 3.1. This is the most current release of the On-Line engine for this release of Ultrix. We encountered a problem with a transaction spanning logical logs. This would cause the On-Line engine to 'hang'. The message from the Log File is listed below: xx:xx:xx Process Aborted Abnormally: pid 24359 user=1094 us=081200 flags=2e21 xx:xx:xx Process Aborted Abnormally (cricical section): pid 24359 user=1094 flags=2e21 xx:xx:xx INFORMIX-OnLine entering ABORT mode!!! xx:xx:xx INFORMIX-OnLine Stopped The engine is now off line and enters Recovery mode when you try to bring it up. It never leaves Recovery mode and the user process flagged in the Log File appears (to Informix) to still be alive (with a PID of 0). Initially I called Informix and they dialed into our machine (thank god for maintainance!). The only solution offered was to upgrade the OS to Ultrix 4.1 and get a newer release of the OnLine engine. The alternative (which we have elected to do) was to increase the size of the logical logs (I increased ours ten fold - the logs are large enough that they do NOT fill in an average production day). We had the system lock up several more times before I had the time to schedule a system shutdown to reconfigure Informix. The method I used to free the system was to leave Informix alone, kill all Informix related processes and ONLY THEN bring the engine back on line. We had no problems with data corruption or other nasty things happening to our dbspace. Hope this helps. I do not have a bug number for this problem with the UE2 release of OnLine. +-------------------------------------------------------------------------+ | P.E.
