RE: Best platform for Informix?

I love AIX and would be unhappy to use anything else. I trust Big Blue and their abilities. I love smit, which allows me to do some simple monotonous tasks with menus (and still be able to see the commands underneath), and assures you cannot screw things up. It is great for beginners, as I was two years ago. True, some UNIX admins would think this is cheating, but it sure saves me time. Other more complex tasks I do normally from the shell. I also appreciate greatly how stable our RS/6000 has been over the last two years, having hung once due to AIX and having crashed twice in that time due to Informix. I don't know how that compares to other platforms. I also love the logical volume manager that makes moving, creating and increasing the size of volumes a breeze. True, parts are pretty expensive but we have been able to get used parts at half the price of new. This includes memory, CPU and controller cards, and these parts are still pretty up-to-date technologically; I have never had any problems with these parts either. (Apart from the fact there wasn't enough room for the >Sun and their head at the I've used Informix on AIX-RS/6000 and it was perfectly stable, and I've never had a problem with an RS/6000, their build like tanks. Currently run Informix on Linux-Netfinity 5500, and while the initial release for that platform was a touch shaky I've had no trouble with it in +6 months, and the bang-per-buck on Intel hardware is hard to beat (especially with IBM standing behind it).
