I am looking to canvass option on the implementation of KAIO with HP-UX 10.20 and IDS 7.24. We are aware of "Bug: 92132 HP KAIO HAS A SIGNIFICANT I/O BOTTLENECK", however, I am looking for any practical experiences. The questions which I would appreciate a comment upon if you are a site using these O/S & Informix versions are:- Implemented KAIO: ? Tried, Used, Live, Backed Out ? Performance Experienced when implemented: ? - / + No of Processors in Server: Data Size: HP Server Model: Comments. Appreciate your help. Colin
About a year and a half ago, I carried out a series of tests to assess KAIO on HP. Here are some of the details HP Server : T-600 # Processors : 8 Informix : v 7.23 & v7.14 Tests : A mix of inserts, deletes, updates, selects aimed at getting the disk all hot and bothered. Monitored that it actually happened using glance. Results : With KAIO turned OFF, I/O performance improved by 25-50%, depending on the type of test. Also tried : Fiddling with some environment variables that, I believe, modified the type of KAIO being used - to no avail. Currently live on HPUX 10.20 / IDS 7.30.uc7. Backed out on HPUX 10.20 / IDS 7.24.uc7 Seems to be OK in HPUX 10.20 / IDS 7.30.uc10 > Performance Experienced when implemented: ? - / + 20-30% gain when implemented correctly. > No of Processors in Server: 4 @ 90MHZ > Data Size: 20G > HP Server Model: K200 -- John Carlson Informix DBA WHSmith USA #include std_disclaimer.h /* These are my opinions, not my company's opinion */
