I do not know what is your purpose to use ROWNUM. In Oracle, I mostly use ROWNUM to select the first n records and give each retrieved row a sequential number. If this is what you want to do, Informix "SELECT" statement let you to be able to select the first n rows. But I do not know Informix gives you a method to assign a sequential number to every retrieved row in its SQL statement.
