BLOB Questions

I would appreciate any information, or direction you could provide regarding the use of BLOBS in Online. I am developing the schema for a new application and I believe I can reduce my storage requirements considerably by using BLOBs. To store this information relationally would require key fields at least equal or two times greater in size than the data. Using BLOBs I believe I can store this information as variable length fields and reduce my key field requirements. I am interested in learning about defining and sizing BLOB data types. If you could direct me to archive articles or publications, I would be very grateful.
