RE: Can I perform a Level-0 back-up onto a Disk using ontape ?
Posted in 2000
Where is this 2GB limit coming from? Using IDS 7.3 on DEC/Unix I've taken
30GB level0's to disk with no problems. Of course, your tape size parameter
in the onconfig must be large enough to hold the entire level0.
The only 2GB limit I'm aware of is when you are defining chunks. Even
version 5 of Informix did not have a problem with large level0 disk files.

Thank you for all the mails . But still I have a question,
Is there anyway I can automate the Level-0 Backup onto a disk using ontape
when
the data exceeds 2GB?
TIA

Jenny,
With ontape you can take backup (system archive and logical log backup) on
disk without any problem.
I have following parameters set in my $ONCONFIG:
=============================================================
TAPEDEV /var/local/archive/bombay/arc # Tape device path
TAPEBLK 128 # Tape block size (Kbytes)
TAPESIZE 2000000 # Maximum amount of data to put on tape
(Kbytes)
# Log Archive Tape Device
LTAPEDEV /var/local/archive/bombay/log # Log tape device path
LTAPEBLK 128 # Log tape block size (Kbytes)
LTAPESIZE 2000000 # Max amount of data to put on log tape
(Kbytes)
============================================================================
==========
/var/local/archive/bombay/arc & /var/local/archive/bombay/log, both must
have rw-rw---- with owner and group informix.
I'm using Informix 7.3 UC8 on Solaris 2.6. I take 0 level archive daily on
disk and unix folks take full system backup on tape on their schedule. That
way I have two copies of my backup.
If the size of your archive is more that 2 GB then you can use the way
Geoffrey Poole <Geoffrey.Poole@ogs.co.uk> has suggested.
Hope this will help.
Regards,
Nick.

Hi!
what is the command to run ontape on disks? I thought only onarchive and
onbar can backup to disks. Anyway, configuring onarchive was terrible -
never want to do it again! Have not used onbar yet.
Thanks,
Jenny.
