unpacking IFMXULTIMTED11.50_FC9_LNX86_64MLRPM.bin
Posted in 2013
Karl couldn't unpack IBM's .bin installer for Informix 11.50.FC9 on 64-bit Linux. It's a self-extracting installer: chmod +x and run it. Doing so failed on RHEL 6.3 with "libgcc_s.so.1 must be installed for pthread_cancel to work" (and "Failed to find VM" on RHEL 5.9). Suggestions included checking library paths/ldconfig, prerequisite RPMs, and temporarily renaming an OpenJDK java. He eventually installed successfully from a tar-format package; IBM support later explained the installer needs the 32-bit libraries (e.g. 32-bit libgcc/glibc, ncurses) present, not just the 64-bit ones.

help please does anyone know how to unpack this file IFMXULTIMTED11.50_FC9_LNX86_64MLRPM.bin Cant find any infortmtion on this try as I might. I have never heard of file types .bin Last file i downloaded was a tar file why have IBM changed the format ?
It looks like a self unpacking file, for Linux (redhat, Centos, ...) 64 bits. Change mode to executable (chmod a+x or your favorite method) and execute it. It seems, too, it will produce a .rpm file to install with rpm -Uvh <file>.rpm. Hello. key references: locate libgcc_s.1.so ldconfig -v | grep libgcc_s ls /etc/ld.so.conf.d echo $LD_LIBRARY_PATH investigate about that. Also you can read http://www.ibm.com/developerworks/library/l-lpic1-v3-102-3/ I hope it help you. thanks for your suggestions. I have tried them. IBM support are still looking at the issue. I wonder if IBM terch even tried the install script on RHEL version 6. We should not be getting these issues. Never have them with HPux unix
HPux is an unique product. Making a product for Linux is subject to little variations, which can easily fixed by the sysadmin. I supose IBm support will tell you some suggestions on what to do. In the mean while, this can help you: http://presentations.oninit.com/public/2012IIUG/D08.pdf http://www.tejasbarot.com/2011/09/20/solved-libgcc_s-so-1-must-be-installed-for- pthread_cancel-to-work-for-teamviewer-6-0-9258-centos-6-x86_64-rhel-x86_64-64-bi t/ http://forum.teamspeak.com/showthread.php/40875-libgcc_s-so-1-must-be-installed- for-pthread_cancel-to-work Have a nice day. --Nestor El mié, 16-01-2013 a las 15:34 -0500, KARL OLIVER escribió: > thanks for your suggestions. > I have tried them. > IBM support are still looking at the issue. > > I wonder if IBM terch even tried the install script on RHEL version 6. > We should not be getting these issues. IBM support have not been able to get this working either
rpm -qa | grep -e libaio -e libgcc -e libstdc -e ncurses -e pam and cat /etc/redhat-release please. Thanks. The documented pre-requisites are there. Some of the versions are higher which may raise some incompatibility. RHEL 6.3 was released after the release of that Informix version so it's not certified and it would be impossible to test it at release time.... i have tried to install on RHEL Red Hat Enterprise Linux Server release 5.9 Linux version 2.6.18-308.el5 (mockbuild@x86-007.build.bos.redhat.com) (gcc version 4.1.2 20080704 (R ed Hat 4.1.2-50)) #1 SMP Fri Jan 27 17:17:51 EST 2012 fails on this as well see below. ./IFMXULTIMTED11.50_FC9_LNX86_64MLRPM.bin Preparing to install... Extracting the JRE from the installer archive... Unpacking the JRE... Extracting the installation resources from the installer archive... Configuring the installer for this system's environment... Launching installer... Failed to find VM - aborting is it not supported on this either ? should i get our sysadmin people to install earlier versions on linux on our 2 server running version 5 and 6 of rhel ?
You can check the supported versions in the machine notes. RHEL 5.9 was release a couple of weeks ago. So it's another version that has a release date later than the Informix release date. Nevertheless the error seems different... You may try a simple "trick". If the command "java -version" returns a normal output (meaning the system has an installed version) and the output refers to the OpenJDK you may try to temporarily rename the command and try the installer again. This issue was previously discussed here. It may be worth the attempt. I have obtained another package that works fronm IBM in tar format this tiem it works. SO wont bother with the other package. Thanks for your suggestions
Fernando the answer from IBM support The reason I can install IFMXULTIMTED11.50FC9LNX8664MLRPM.bin on RHEL 4.0 and NOT on 5.4, 6.1 or 6.3 because on 4.0 has both 32-bit and 64-bit library already installed (see below). In your case the install error " libgcc_s.so.1 must be installed for pthread_cancel to work" in which it is referring to 32-bit libgcc_s.so.1, rather than the 64-bit found in your path. So, the missing 32-bit libs are prerequisites that must be installed before IDS. I wonder how many people new that ? I cant see in ids_machine_notes_11.50.txt where it states you have to have 32 bit libs for install to work Am I missing something,or not understanding something

Presumably whoever tested the installer at IBM did it on a box with 32-bit glibc installed. I did not have a problem with this so I assume they are part of the default install of RHEL. David.
