Re: Changing a table owner

Yes, but not supportably. I tried the 'obvious' trick: CREATE TABLE 'johnl'.xyz (a SERIAL NOT NULL); RENAME TABLE 'johnl'.xyz TO 'informix'.xyz; But you get a syntax error. Looking in the reference manual, you find that it documents the restriction 'new table name: you cannot use the "owner". convention in the new name of the table'. So, you are stuck with updating SysTables.Owner, and associated changes. Simply updating SysTables.Owner deals with the table, but you have to consider who should own all the indexes, constraints, triggers, and so on. You also need to consider what to do about the permissions that have been granted on the table by the original owner -- should the new owner have granted those permissions instead? And so it goes on. And, of course, updating the system catalogue via the back door like this is not supported, of course. It may be easier to drop and re-create the table after all.
