Normally it is used only after faxes of signed agreements absolving Informix of responsibility for the inevitable loss of some transactions when the program is run. BTW, there is another utility called tbone (and its authors HATE whe you pronounce it T-Bone ;-) which adds a logical log although the system is down, and makes it usable although you have not performed a level-0 archive. This is less risky than tbzero and results in no loss of data. But you must faithfully run a level-0 archive PDQ afterwards, because if you crash and recover from an older archive, the archive tape does not know about that new log. And I think the logical logs don't know about it either. I don't expect anyone to be fired over using this one. Another BTW. I recall an Informix employee getting fired because he left one of these utilities at the customer site, neglecting to delete it after the job was done.
