You have listed the necessary steps with the following exceptions: * You must the use /dev/r<logical-volume-name>. It shows as: crw-rw---- 1 informix informix 37, 45 Jan 17 21:47 /dev/rrootdbs (instead of) brw-rw---- 1 root system 37, 45 Jan 05 20:45 /dev/rootdbs * You must stop and restart Informix before the new temporary dbspaces will be recognized as such. * It is better to use logical links to the raw devices instead of referencing them directly with Informix. ln -s /dev/r<lv-name> /<logical path name> This technique avoids any Informix links to physical devices. In case of a disk failure, it allows you to restore the "down" chunk to a different physical location. -----Original Message----- From: Ameerul@mesiniaga.com.my To: informix-list@iiug.org Sent: 2/13/00 5:19 PM Subject: dbsapce temp Hi, I'm using 7.24UC5 on AIX. Does anyone know what the steps/criteria need to create a DBSPACETEMP besides : 1. create logical volume with the tempchunk name and chmod 660 and informix.informix 2. create dbspace with T=yes and create the chunks concerned. 3. modify the onconfig file and include the dbspace name concerned. regards.

SCO let me name my divisions as I want, so I can restore to a different location without links. It looks like AIX does the same thing. Tommi Mäkitalo Dr. Eckhardt + Partner GmbH
