System DSN with Informix/Intersolve ODBC in NT

I need help creating a true "system" DSN in NT server 4.0 for Informix ODBC. We are using the Informix client sdk odbc drivers on the NT server, and connecting to an Informix server on a Unix box. I can configure the system DSNs to work ONLY for users that have logged on to the NT server before. This entails running setnet32 and loading a saved .nfx file with all the settings, and also running regcopy to copy the reg settings to all users. That's OK, but doesn't solve my real problem. What I need - is to configure this System DSN to be available to ANY user that logs on to ( or more importantly authenticates through ) this NT server - without having had the user ever login before. It needs to be configured and ready to go without them having to log on to the server at all. Does that make any sense? I have users that will connect to this server and must be able to use an application that is launched from their desktop and authenticates them against the server ( or NT Domain SAM) which then "Shares" all of its System DSNs with the clients for database connectivity purposes. The application is the Seagate Info OLAP cube designer. When I setup Oracle, MS SQL Server, MS Access or other odbc System DSNs, this functionality works great and is simple to setup. There is no complicated SetNet32 "per user" configuration or registry settings to copy. Also, in my MS Windows ODBC experience, a User DSN is only available to the user that logged on and created that particular DSN. A System DSN is a "Machine" data source name that is available to any user that logs on to the machine. That does not seem to hold true for Informix, with out a lot of extra configuring. That will be an administrative nightmare. How can I do this with Informix? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks, Steve Dickerson sdickerson@dsgtech.net

In the latest release (2.50) there is a check box in setnet called "use my settings". If it is *unchecked*, it will setup the entries in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE. So if a user doesn't have a HKEY_CURRENT_USER\\Software\\Informix hive, it will look in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE. That might mean removing the old USER based entries. This should get you closer to what your looking for. -- Tom Kliethermes 90% of people give the rest of us a bad name. "Not answering this post implies that you believe everything I have said." Thanks, Today, I got a second opinion from a different Informix tech support rep who suggested the same thing. I was using V 2.30 of the Client SDK, and installed 2.50. I still get the same results. However, I was told I shouldn't have to un-install the old client first, so I simply installed V 2.50 into a new directory. I also made sure that the environment variables were changed to point to the new installation. (i.e. Informixdir = c:\\program files\\informix\\Client SDK\\ ). The new version was installed under administrator credentials. I configured Setnet32, left the box unchecked, and still had the same results. I thought about doing a total uninstall, registry cleaning, and re-installation. Any suggestions? Thanks.
