The official support was withheld because RH 5.x uses libc6 (glibc2) while the Informix release was compiled with libc5. RH 5.x supplies libc5 compatibility libraries so the engine and pre-compiler run fine but the programs generated by the compiler MAY not function properly because the ESQL libraries were compiled to link with libc5 and may not work properly with the equivalent libc6 functions. There is a workaround. See the IIUG site for a link to instructions for compiling libc5 executables on a libc6 system. The libc5 executables you create will be distributable and runable on libc5 system and on any libc6 system like Red Hat that contains support for libc5 executables. Informix plans to port to libc6 when Caldera, SuSE, et al convert next year. Right now they just want to support the largest number of installations which are mostly libc5. RH 4.2 does not have this problem. Art S. Kagel
