here are few options
1) use HPL to unload and load (try to use express mode with multiple files).
i was able refresh a 200Gb database in under 6 hours using this method (you
may need to script it).
2) use onunload/onload (this will be a slow process)
3) upgrade to 9.4, you can use the "rename chunk restore" to do this.

Informix Dynamic Server Ver 9.21UC7XC

Sun Solaris 2.8
Hi All,
We have two informix instances on the same box.
Now we have a requirement where we have to refresh one
environment from other.
Does anyone knows of some tricks or good ways to make
it possible using ontape?
The devices for chunks in two instances are not
similar so ontape is not able to restore the backup
taken on instance1 to instance2.
I know I can use dbexport but are database is too big
for the same.
If someone has good ideas , please let me know.
Thanks in advance.

3 is a good point. You can temporarily "upgrade" to 9.40, dump, restore
redirected, then revert to 9.21. Be aware thought that the reversion is
likely to fail with any GA version of 9.40 - ask for 9.40FC3W2 or wait until
April (see http://www.ardenta.com/ids_reversion.htm for details).
