RE: 7.20: CONNECT TO 5.02 -> error -591

Is it possible that there is a user defined in B:/etc/passwd who is =
logging on to the A machine and whose login is not defined in =
A:/etc/passwd? I had this problem on one of my test machines here. Even =
if you are using yellow pages to define all the users on a central =
passwd database, Informix just checks for the local /etc/passwd.
BTW, error -519 says "Cannot update column to illegal value." on my =
machine. I am running Informix 5.02UC1 on HP-UX 9.x here. Maybe its =
different for different machines?
Hope this helps

Subject: 7.20: CONNECT TO 5.02 -> error -591
Machine A:
AIX 3.2.5
I ONLINE 5.02
Machine B ("amadeus"):
AIX 4.1.4
I ONLINE 7.20
Trying to connect from machine B (via esql/c or dbaccess) to machine A
results in error -591:
User is not known on the database server
(note the obviously empty user name!)
This happens in esql/c with any variant of the CONNECT TO stmt, and also
with the DATABASE stmt.
The sqlexecd-log
($INFORMIXDIR/lib/sqlexecd myservice -l /tmp/sqlexecd.log)
on machine A shows corrupted lines:
..
^A^?^A< amadeus
^A^?^A< amadeus
..
instead of the correct lines, e.q
sqlexec amadeus myusername -dmydatabase
This also happens when I use Online 7.13 on machine B, however
7.10 works fine.
Any hints, whats going wrong ?
Thanks.
