Sunil mentioned .netrc which should set you on the right road. It easier to script under UNIX, so if you can't set up Samba or NFS then use ftp from the UNIX side. A heredoc should do it, under HP-UX you can download ncftp (which will remember passwords for you, but you do force passwords to expire, of course?) anyway, given a reliable network something simple like ftp target << EL_GORDO put filename.ext EL_GORDO should do the trick. If you replace filename with a variable ($1?) you can call it repeatedly for a list of filenames.
