Re: dbaccess "trusted user" or not...

Hi Daniel, The information from Informix is right. If your client application needs to connect to the db without a password your db server must allow the connect. This can pe performed either 1.) by typing the clients "network hostname" (see below) in the hosts.equiv file on the db server (Unix: in /etc ; NT: in %windir%\\system32\\drivers\\etc) 2.) or by typing the hostname+userid in the users home directory on the db server (IMHO Unix only) 3.) or by using the ~/.netrc on the client maschine (IMHO Unix only) See also Admin Guide under "TCP/IP Connectivity Files" (Vol. 1) If your db server resides on a Unix maschine you can check the connection with: rsh <dbhost> date If no password is required here the connection schould be ok. The "network hostname" depends on your net configuration (with or without the domain. The best way is to add both versions into the hosts.equiv / .rhosts file. Note also that your db server writes this "network hostname" into its online logfile in case of rejection a client connection. On a Unix db server you can determine the clients "network hostname" by typing: nslookup <client_ip_address> Hope this helps Uwe
