DBSPACETEMP Best Practice

Hi, We are running Informix 11.70.FC7 on Solaris. We have data in both 2k and 8k dbspaces and indexes in 4k dbspaces. What is the best practice regarding temp spaces. Do we need to have a temp space for each size dbspace? Thank you, --Dave --001a114242a4f4c48d052a51e11c
Hello. It will mostly depends of your temp objects usage (eg create temp table...). You can have several temp dbspaces, with different page sizes, but this will bring changes to your development team, to separate each object in its respective dbspace, and that should not bring you much benefits. I would go for 4k temp dbspace (or a bunch of 4k temp dbspaces), that could manage enough objects, according to your specific needs, and also sorting operations in your queries. We also have a client with 11.70.FC8, in linux, that can use 4 of them, in the form below: DBSPACETEMP tempdbs01:tempdbs02:tempdbs03:tempdbs04 I hope that helps you, anyway. Best regards. I think you are ok with only 2K temp dbspaces for the most part, but I'd like to hear other opinions if I'm wrong. You'll benefit from larger page sizes for temp dbspaces if you have temp tables/temp indexes that fit better in non 2K pages, but I don't think that the page size of your data dbspaces or index dbspaces should play a role in temp dbspace page sizing.
