lock timeout expired ...could not insert row

Hi all, We have IDS 9.40 FC5 running on HP-UX 11.11.We are getting the following error in our 4gl application. Date: 07/04/08 Time: 09:33:04 Program error at 'con.4gl', line number 2496. SQL statement error number -271. Could not insert new row into the table. SYSTEM error number -154. ISAM error: Lock Timeout Expired Date: 07/04/08 Time: 09:33:04previous error relates to: user1 on: 5 Date: 07/04/08 Time: 09:33:13 Program error at 'con.4gl', line number 2496. SQL statement error number -271. Could not insert new row into the table. SYSTEM error number -154. ISAM error: Lock Timeout Expired Date: 07/04/08 Time: 09:33:13previous error relates to: user2 on: 4 In our con.4gl line number 2496 is - INSERT INTO con VALUES (gr_con.*) we are using only one informix server,we are not accessing the database from any other server.Hundreds of users accessing the database same time. what could be the reason for this error message.kindly give me the permanent solution for this problem.Any help would be highly appreciated. One option is to increase the lock timeout The line in your 4gl code that states SET LOCK MODE TO WAIT x Where x is the number of seconds for the app to wait for access. Make x larger. If the line is not there then put it there - some where in the MAIN or initialisation code. Check the isolation levels used in your applications. Can they be relaxed. Make sure that the table that is causing the contention was created with "LOCK MODE ROW" Other things to check for - Check for any triggers on the table that is being inserted into. Does the table have unnessesary indexes. How big is the table? Would it benefit with some kind of fragmentation scheme.
