Ontape -r

Hi all,
I was testing the capabilities of ontape to read an archive. I restored our test database from the last tape. I took informix offline and ran ontape -r develop. Message returned that the physical restore of develop completed. The online.log follows. The problem is now when I try to run ontape -s -L 0 I get the error "... Archive failed - DBspace develop is being recovered." What do I need to do to fix this. I could not find the answer in the manuals.

Oninit is still in recover mode as default from previous restore, Shut your
server down then restart it the usual way and check there isnt any oninit -r
with a unix ps command.

Look below and I'll point out your error. It is not well documented but I've
been bitten:

Here is where you went wrong. You shutdown the engine after the restore
without bringing it fully to online mode. The restore left the restored
chunks in state "inconsistent" meaning they were in the process of being
restored. Bringing the engine online would have triggered the end of the
fast recovery logic which would have run through the on disk logfiles to see
if there were transactions to apply and finally marked the chunks back to
online status. At this point you have to restore that dbspace again and this
time do 'onmode -m' and wait for the engine status to report 'online' to
onstat before shutting down with 'onmode -ky'. This recovery may be
instantaneous but it usually takes a while, sometimes a seemingly unusually
long while. When the engine is online run an onstat -d and you will see the
chunks are now online as is the dbspace.

Hang around here, pay attention, and help others. You'll learn quickly
enough, we all did. OK maybe the Clown is still at the learning stage, but
the rest of us did. ;-)
