I noticed a bar_act.log file in our /tmp directory today...inside it had a lot of entries like this for different times during the day over a period of the last two months... 2000-05-19 10:11:00 25698 25697 /usr/informix/bin/onbar_d -l 2000-05-19 10:11:01 25698 25697 WARNING: BAR_BSALIB_PATH is undefined; trying default path. 2000-05-19 10:11:01 25698 25697 ERROR: An unexpected error occurred: . No such file or directory 2000-05-19 10:11:01 25698 25697 ERROR: Could not open XBSA library /usr/lib/ib sad001.sl. 2000-05-19 10:11:01 25698 25697 ERROR: Version 0.0.0 of the XBSA shared librar y is not compatible with version 1 o f ON-Bar. I guessing, obviously, this is an error message from the on-bar utility?? However, the really strange thing is that we dont use on-bar nor ever have we...its not set up anywhere (cron, scripts, etc) to run on the system nor would anyone other than myself even know what it was or how to run it. Anyone have any idea why this would be running or what would be reporting these errors if its not on-bar or what would be trying to run on-bar?? Does the online engine (7.30 UC6 HP/UX 10.20) ever periodically kick it off?? thanks James MCS Limited Haminton Bermuda
What this is telling you that onbar_d -l try to run. What that does is
backs up your logical logs. Do you have logical log backups turned on or
off? If your LTAPEDEV is set to anything else than /dev/null then when
your logical log fills up informix will automatically kick off a shell
script specified by ALARMPROGRAM. If you don't have that variable
definded in onconfig, then it defaults to $INFORMIXDIR/etc/log_full.sh
scripts which kicks off onbar_d -l. That is probably not set up on your
system for Informix Storage Manager ( or anything else that you are
using for backups ) so that is why the errors.
If you dont want this to run then set the ALARMPROGRAM property to
$INFORMIXDIR/etc/no_log.sh. But then how are you backing up your logs?
(Are you using ontape?)
IDS does kick off log_full.sh in ~informix/etc if you have not
changed configure setting, and log_full.sh calls "onbar -l".
