remote SET EXPLAIN and SYSTEM

This is probably a trivial problem, but I don't have a clue:
I wanted to SET EXPLAIN ON from a remote machine, dbaccess said
534 ISAM 2, no matter which username was used for the
connection in dbaccess. When I tried it
on the database machine locally, it worked without problems.
Then I realized maybe permissions are not ok, so I wanted
to execute SYSTEM 'pwd' (in a SP) just to see where Informix thinks
it is (the docs says sqlexplain.out goes to home directory,
but obviously that one is writable and it still does not work),
and I got 668 ISAM 2, no matter what SYSTEM command was
be executed, even with SYSTEM ''. I assume that the shell cannot
be started remotely and that the dbserver does not know
who I am to put sqlexplain.out to my home, but why??
This is IDS 7.30 on Solaris 2.6_x86.
Cheers,

Same problem here on IDS 7.30UC6 under Siemens Reliant Unix 5.43. Apparent-
ly not platform specific. I don't have a solution for this myself, and it
is very annoying.
