Makes sense. You are limited to 2 Gig. At least on AIX 4.3.2
I assume other flavours will have similar *functionality*.
Informix can only use the first 2Gb of /home/informix/dev/datachunk4.
So check where this is linked to. If the device that it links to is larger
than 2 Gb you will be wasting some space.

Did you do an "onstat -d | grep datachunk4 " to ensure that there was no
other data there.
Perhaps a nice juicy rootdbs ? I am sure that Informix would warn you if
there was but you don't mention OS or Informix version.
Where there any meaningful error messages??

Hoi Joseph,
The linked device,/dev/vg00/rdatachunk0, must be the problem, that one is
3584000k
There was allready one chunk of 2048000k for link
/home/informix/dev/datachunk2 and I wanted to add 1536000k for link
/home/informix/dev/datachunk4 to the same device, /dev/vg00/rdatachunk0.
Made a bad mistake, I should have knowe better.
I've to found out now, how to decrease the device to 2048000k and how to
make a /dev/vg00/rdatachunk2 of 1536000k.
If you or somebody else got the answer for me, I'am glad to hear that too.
Working on HP-UX 10.20 and Informix 7.24.UC6
Thanks,
Alex

Yes, Informix does not check that multiple links donot point
to the same file/device you MUST be careful! To avoid doing
this ourselves I, with Jake Salomon's great aid, created a
wrapper for onspaces, aspace, that performs the checks that
the named link/filename does not point to a file or device
that is already being used. Aspace, and its reporting tool
printchunks, are included in the package utils_ak that I
submitted to the IIUG Software Repository a few years ago.
