How do I find out what just ate
Posted in 1997
It's hard to debug after the fact in 5.xx. I can give you some hints on monitoring to find the guilty culprit, however. Run a cron job on an hourly basis that will append the date, time, and the following db info to a file: tbstat -d ( this will allow you to pinpoint exactly when the "big bite" occurs. ) tbcheck -pe ( this will show you the amount of space that each table is using. Look for the table that just grabbed a bunch of pages during the "big bite" period. This will be your offending table. ) tbstat -u ( this will show you the connected users and how many i/o's each has done. Look for a user that generated a lot of i/o's during the table growth period. ) ps -ef ( use the ps info to link the sqlturbo process that was identified in tbstat -u to a specific application, user, or terminal ). It's possible that the offending user or process could start and terminate between iterations of your cron job, so you may want to schedule it even more often than every hour. Our 'pages available' on our database grows slowly except for large jumps that occur ~once a month. We would be at 100K pages for weeks, then go down to 6K in a day. How can I find out what all of this info. is or what loaded it? (or even what time it was loaded?) Is that valid data? Any info. appreciated (even an RTFL page#) Thanks in advance! -Richard Ross ross@charlie.ece.sc.edu
