Informix Error Message -103

This problem happened using old dos informix. A program that was working last week is now giving the following ISAM error. -103 ISAM error: illegal key descriptor (too many parts or too long). The ISAM processor has been given an invalid key descriptor. C-ISAM programs: Review the key descriptor. There is a maximum of 8 parts and 120 characters to each key descriptor. If the error recurs, please note all circumstances and contact the Informix Technical Support Department. My question, What is a key descriptor? I guess my second question would you review the key descriptor to ensure it is valid? Regards Brett Schubert
I found the answer to my problem. I am assuming an "illegal key descriptor" is something to do with the key in an index. On examination of this problem I could not select from a table where the criteria was a key of the index. The -103 error occured. Other criteria not part of an index worked correctly. To remedy the problem I had to unload, drop, recreate and load the table. After that I recreated the indexes. All associated programs now function correctly.
