Yes, HP-UX does support large files if you set up the filesystem
that way (I believe there's a "-o largefiles" option).
There are side effects to this, however. The "ls" command doesn't
always work properly with the larger files. Also, if you do any shell
script calculations that involve file sizes, enabling the largefiles
option may break things as variables are limited in how much they
can handle.

I'm not sure...I can do some digging because this is a common
question. Since I don't use dbexport, I never really looked at the
answer. Ontape supports >2GB disk output if you have the right
version...I don't believe that HPL does, though.
I do know that piping dbexport into a compression utility (to
generate a compressed file <2GB) won't work...at least not with the
7.2x engines.

I suppose using dbexport with a fifo instead of a tapedev should work,
it does work with load/unload.
mkfifo myfifo
gzip < myfifo > myfile &
dbexport -t myfile -blah blah...
