Unable to cleanly drop database

Very unusual . . .
I have six dbspaces (size 1024000 pgs/2G within a 2G rawspace) that
contain tables within a single database. When I drop the database, I
run an onstat -d and expect to see "free" space as (1024000 pgs - 53 <?>
pgs overhead). Instead, I see that the free space is a negative number
for 5 out of 6 dbspaces. Informix tech support hasn't been able to pin
a bug on this one. Any ideas, out there?
