Informix gurus, My company has several 4GL for UNIX applications (written by me when I worked for a programming firm). We do not have development, but I did bring the source code with me. Recently, we moved from character-based terminals to PC's on each desk. For now, people using the UNIX stuff do it through a terminal emulator. We want all future development done in GUI. We will continue to need bug fixes in the UNIX code (I'm not perfect). So I'm left with at least the following choices: 1) Buy 4GL/Windows. Port old applications to 4GL/Windows and use it for bug fixes. Develop new applications with 4GL/Windows. 2) Buy development (1 user) for the UNIX box. Do bug fixes with that. Develop new applications with something like PowerBuilder, New Era, HST, Uniface, or whatever. I have experience with none of them. Which would you recommend? If number 2, then which dev tool? Background: 25-30 PC's. RS/6000 model 360 running AIX 3.2.5. Ethernet. Want to keep databases on UNIX. SE engine. I'm the only developer. Please give me your biased opinions.
