SQL error using JDBC

This seems to be related to using the JDBC driver and a particular field name
in a table. For example, just trying to create a simple query....
The following query works fine:
select id from sens
But trying to select a field called 't' fails:
select t from sens
We tried several escape characters, quotes, etc, but no success. Here is the
error message:
"syntax error, unexpected $end, expecting BETWEEN or IN or SQL_TOKEN_LIKE"
We are trying to connect to Informix from LibreOffice via JDBC. I know this is
not a LibreOffice issue since we can create an identical table natively in
LibreOffice and have no issues.
Thanks for your help.
