Informix - Free version
Posted in 2015
A user asked where to get a free Informix edition and its licensing limits for a small shop (5 users, 100-200MB database). Answers pointed to Innovator-C, free for production, downloadable from IBM (IBM ID required), with Carlton Doe's developerWorks article listing edition limits: roughly 1 CPU-VP, 2GB memory and (from 12.10) an 8GB storage cap, no ER/HDR, while older 11.70 builds had no storage limit. Participants noted those limits are fine for a 200MB database; if more CPU/memory or replication is needed, the inexpensive Express Edition was recommended. Question effectively answered.

Can anyone send me the link to the free version of Informix for small users, and maybe a link to the stipulations on using the software? This is for a business of around 5 users and 100-200MB database. Larry
The free for production version is called Innovator-C, here is a link I found: http://www-03.ibm.com/software/products/en/infoinnoedit Google will likely find another if that one does not work, you will need an IBM Id which is free and easy enough to get if you don't have one. Carlton Doe keeps a good article about the limitations of each version here: http://www.ibm.com/developerworks/data/library/techarticle/dm-0801doe/ Looks like Innovator-C is limited to 2GB memory, 1 CPUVP and 8GB storage, No ER and No HDR, but does include the NoSQL and TimeSeries stuff if that interests you. The free versions have a limit of 8GB data, so won;t be of any use. Informix Express Edition is inexpensive, has an OK-ish 4 core/8GB memory limit, so might suffice.
The Innovator-C Edition does not have this pace limit as the Developer Edition has. The developer edition is really ogf limit usage, only for developers. Innovator-C is free of charge. limited ot 1 CPU-VP and 2 GB of cahe memory. If you need more CPU-/memory-ressources or features like Replication then Express Edition is required. The OP mentioned a 100-200MB database... it's a use. The Innovator-C from version 12.10 have limit of 8GB data storage. Version of Innovator-C from 11.70.XC5 to 11.70.XC8 does not have data storage limited. Version of Innovator-C 11.70.XC4 have limit of 2GB memory, no limited storage, and limit of 4 x CPU-VP :) Unfortunately, you can't download this version from IBM site anymore. Don't remember limit for 11.50 version of Innovator-C anymore ... but, like NEIL wrote, Express Edition is inexpensive ...
