moving chunk from one disk to another

We have been experiencing a lot of I/O wait on one set of disks - there are two raw volumes (two chunks) on that set and I want to move one chunk to another disk set on another controller. Using AIX 4.3.3, it is very easy to move a volume around. Then I assume I can just recreate the character device using mknod to point to the new volume, and of course, giving it the same name as the old character device. We are using IDS 7.31 UC3. Is there anything else I should know or consider and am I correct with my assumptions? Thanks again, Catherine Geier System Admin/IS Northwestern College St. Paul, MN 55101
Catherine, As gets mentioned often here, never point your chunks directly to the device. Point the chunk to a symbolic link to the device. Then, there is no requirement to give the new character device the same name as the old one. You simply change the link to point to the new device name, whatever it is. If the disks are in the same volume group, you can use the migratepv command. This will move the logical volume from one disk to another. You won't have to change anything in the database.
