Re: blobs used space in a database
Posted in 2014
A user on IDS 9.40 (AIX) asked how to find out how much space blobs occupy in a database. Art Kagel answered: for blobspace blobs, run 'onstat -d update', which reports free/used blobspace; for tablespace blobs, use SQL such as 'select sum(length(blobcol)) from mytable', noting that length() gives actual data size, so you should round each value up to the page size (2K or 4K, platform dependent) before summing. The rest of the thread is off-topic traffic from someone trying to unsubscribe from the IIUG list.

If they are blobspace blobs the onstat -d update will tell you how much
blobspace is unused. If they are tablespace blobs you'll have to:
select sum(length(blobcol)) from mytable;
But that's actual size so you may want to adjust the value that length()
returns to the next pagesize (2K or 4K depending on platform) before
summing it.
