The -eq operator is very Bourne shell. What it's saying is that one of the values is not set. Smacks at environment to me. Okay, so it might not be environment, but it could be something simple like setting INFORMIXSERVER. :-) It is possibly the check for a port number as Art says. I don't have the script in front of me.
