some help please - WEB front to INFORMIX back

A few of us around here are reasonable INFORMIX programmers - mostly SE i4gl. Some of us have just started branching out and developing very simplistic WEB pages for internal use on intranet. We realise that it should be possible to use a WEB browser as a front end to an INFORMIX back end database - both from an extract and add/update point of view. Our Informix databases reside on UNIX platforms which we are able to access using some third party terminal emulator. Our WEB servers sit on Windows NT machines - but on the same internal network. We are willing to learn and make mistakes and just need pointing in a few general directions in order to get us going. The simpler and quicker the better - nothing frustrates us more than not being able to get quick results - patience is not our strong point. Can anyone help please?

I am looking at a similar situation and wondering about a possible solution. To my mind the following could be a solution that might interest you. This is what I am considering but not yet made my mind yet because I am not getting convincing replies from this newsgroup. Invest in a Pentium 3 h/w and have linux and IIF2000. The Informix Internet Foundation 2000 will need to act as a front end to the back end Standard Engine Informix Database. IIF 2000 comes with the web datablade which will allow for the building of dynamic web pages with data populated from SQL queries. The flip side is that you will have to invest in a web server also on the Linux box. (Apache ?). Licensing could be another issue too. The web datablade is the one that is demanding the universal server and its features. There is (or was ?) a product named Data Director for Visual Basic which you could try for a different solution. But this means you might need a Blade Manager to install a web data blade and establish connection to the backend database. Another option (probably a costly one) is to upgrade informix to 9.20 or as it is called IIF2000. Thanks Ram S. Sent via Deja.com http://www.deja.com/ Before you buy.
