He's Back, Better and Bold

Not a technical problem thread: it's John Miller III's announcement that Jonathan Leffler had rejoined the IBM Informix team, followed by congratulatory replies from well-known community members (Art Kagel, Paul Watson, Lester Knutsen, Fernando Nunes and others). The only question raised was whether DBD/DBI::Informix would get an update, which went unanswered. Side discussion covered IBM's claim (from a Denver roadshow) that Informix is now its 'database of the future' thanks to China adoption, IoT and NoSQL+SQL, and complaints that IBM markets this too little. No technical issue or resolution.

Cool, what is he working on first? Is DBI:Informix going to receive an update? Regards, David. > On 14 July 2015 at 13:50 arman <arman@advancedatatools.com> wrote: > > > Best news I heard all day. OH.MY. Welcome back Jonathon ... part of me knew you could never stay away. I hope part of this is what Carlton said yesterday at the roadshow in Denver about "Informix is now IBM's database of the future" due to China's adoption, IoT and [NoSQL + SQL] functionality. Only took 15 years. All of the above is definitely a NICE surprise. Thanks - Mark
And it will be another 15 before IBM tells anyone :-) > OH.MY. > > Welcome back Jonathon ... part of me knew you could never stay away. Jerry: True, you have told the Informix community, and we very much appreciate this level of feed. However, more needs to be done, beside me posting to LinkedIn, to tell the rest of the world. One thing I mentioned to Carlton yesterday at the road show ... he pointed out many significant differentiators of IDS versus other engines. There were multiple times that he mentioned "IDS can do that and nobody else can." HUGE opportunity for marketing of these differentiators: Gartner, Developerworks, etc. I hope this type of thing is underway. Or why not tell the "story" as to why Jonathan is back? If it's connected to the about face Carlton said IBM has done on IDS, then ... Thanks- Mark
