11.5FC7WE x PROCS AFFINITY
Posted in 2015
On IDS 11.5FC7WE under RHEL 6 (4 cores), the online.log showed all CPU VPs being "Affinitied ... to phys proc 0", seemingly pinning every CPU VP to one core while the other CPUs sat idle; the poster asked how to disable affinity since no AFFINITY parameter exists. His ONCONFIG had only MULTIPROCESSOR 1, VPCLASS cpu,num=3,noage, SINGLE_CPU_VP 0. Art Kagel said that config requests no affinity at all, so no such messages should appear, and advised opening a PMR with IBM; another poster suggested aff settings like aff=1-3 but that was a misreading. Hi, everyone. I'm performed a Informix 11.5FC7WE install on Red Hat 6 Linux . The machine I'm using have 4 procs and I want to use 3 of then in Informix (VPCLASS cpu).Since the first time I tried to put my server up (online) I could see in online.log the message Affinitied VP "1" to phys proc 0Affinitied VP "3" to phys proc 0Affinitied VP "4" to phys proc 0Affinitied VP "5" to phys proc 0 I think the informix VPCLASS are "affiniting" every single CPUVP to the same physical processor. Almost all CPU I have are idle. HGow can I disabled affinity in this version, once I don't have the AFFINITY parameters ? Thanks a lot André Luiz Rufino

Andre: With those settings you should not be seeing affinity at all! I was expecting to see something like: VPCLASS cpu,num=3,noage,aff_nprocs=1,aff_sproc=0 Your setting is correct for no affinity. I thought he said IDS was running everything on one processor and leaving the others idle. I think he was asking how to turn affinity on for three processors and leave one for other purposes. I think what he wants is to set up his VPCLASS like this: VPCLASS cpu,num=3,aff=1-3,noage But, I could be mistaken... --EEM > -----Original Message----- > From: ids-bounces@iiug.org [mailto:ids-bounces@iiug.org] On Behalf Of > Art Kagel > Sent: Wednesday, February 25, 2015 12:53 PM > To: ids@iiug.org > Subject: Re: 11.5FC7WE x PROCS AFFINITY [34718] > > Andre: > > With those settings you should not be seeing affinity at all! Without affinity set there should be no messages in the message log about affining CPU VPs to particular physical processor cores and the CPU VPs should be free to float among all available cores as the OS load balancing algorithms allow.
